The Catskills

I'm not a hugely outsey-doorsey person. As a kid I always loved when it would rain and we would have to have "indoor recess". However, after six winters in Chicago, I've learned to love being outside as often as possible when it's warm. I know, I grew up in Wisconsin, one of the coldest states in the country...but somehow Chicago winters just really suck the hardest.
So, with my newfound outdoorsiness I have grown fond of eating outside, reading in the park, jumping out of airplanes on warm spring days, and camping in tornadoes.
There is one place that I have always wanted to go despite being somewhat of an "indoors" person. That is the Catskills. I didn't necessarily know I wanted to go there, but...(this is embarrassing) it's where they vacation in Dirty Dancing and it always looked so pretty. (DD was actually filmed in Virginia and South Carolina...oh God, I know that.) But the IDEA of the Catskills is what I loved. So, I've been researching the Catskills and you guys, it's so pretty. Look how pretty. I just want to go and sit there all day and look at it. Something about it fills my heart with candy and confetti and I want to go there right now. I love Chicago but whenever I think about the Catskills (or Montana, or Ireland, or Hawaii or Canada) I feel like maybe I'm supposed to be somewhere else. At least for a couple weeks.
Has anyone ever been there? Tell me all about it.
