I've been meaning to write this post for a while.
Why do people blog? I can't really answer for people, but I can answer for me.
1) When I was in college getting my ridiculous "creative writing degree" we had to write everyday. Many days we had to write most of the day in order to finish pieces that were due for workshop later that day or week. Since I'm not in college, I don't really have the luxury of that time. So I write on a blog because it is more structured than scribbling in a journal (which I also do) and it is writing that still needs to be "turned in" to an extent. I think that these blogs have helped shape my playwriting in a lot of ways.
2) This blog is similar to a webpage and is a great place to locate links, videos and pictures that I like. I mean, a great place for me to locate them. Like the SNL Lawrence Welk video which I have now watched 8 times.
3) Friends who live in faraway imaginary places like "New York" and "LA" tell me they keep up with me through the blog.
4) I've met a bunch of sweet new people.
5)When I had pink eye a nurse commented and gave me advice.
6) Some of my blogs have been performed as monologues.
7) There are thirteen people in my immediate family. I'm only talking siblings, parents and one (awesome) sister in law. They are spread out in 7 different states and we have never all been in one room together. I'm not kidding. I have never had my entire immediate family in one room together. (It's kind of a dream I have that I suppose won't come true unless I have a wedding one day) So it's kind of a way to bring my family together in my head. Hard to explain.
8) Of those immediate family members there are four who have only known me about four years. I don't even know if they read this, but I like to think it gives them some insight to who I am.
9) It makes Stephen laugh.
10) Strange things are always happening to me, and it's easier just to tell the story once.
11) I'm like to imagine there is a hot Canadian boyfriend secretly reading this blog every day and falling madly in love with me.
So there. That's why I blog. My friends seem to like it and the strangers are generally super nice. And I try not to say things like "Haven't you read my blog lately?" I don't always use spell check, I don't always rite rul good, and I don't always have something fascinating to talk about...but I try.
Now, if you didn't have Feeling Kinda Blog Today how would you know the following things?
1. Where to find all the other coolest blogs ever. (Sidebar!)
2. What the latest trends in bench graffitti are.
3. What pink eye looks like, close up and personal.
4. How to pretend to be a videographer for extra cash when you are super poor.
5. Who the most interesting customers were at the little grocery store in Wisconsin in 1996-98.
So read it, or don't read it - whichever. I'll just be here spouting out my thoughts on everything regardless. Just like all the other bloggers.
